This diagram is our own simplified illustration to help you picture where each region sits. It is not traced from any official or leaked map. The real game map will look very different in detail.
Leonida: Rockstar's take on Florida
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the fictional US state of Leonida, Rockstar's satirical version of Florida. The series last visited Vice City in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Vice City Stories (2006), both set in the 1980s. GTA 6 brings the city into the present day and, for the first time, makes the surrounding state part of the map. Rockstar introduced the setting in the first trailer in December 2023 and named its regions on the official website alongside the second trailer in May 2025.
Rockstar has so far named six regions. Below is what each one is about, based on Rockstar's own descriptions.
Vice City
The biggest city in Leonida and the heart of the game. Rockstar pitches it as the sun-and-fun capital of America: beaches, nightlife, money and trouble all in one place. Landscape: Dense city on the south-east coast, beachfront and port. Known for: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the VC Port, nightlife.
Leonida Keys
A chain of tropical islands strung together by road bridges, off the southern tip of the state. Rockstar has said the story opens with Jason, whose home is in the Keys. Landscape: Island chain, bridges, open water. Known for: Boats, fishing, laid-back island life, Jason's home.
Grassrivers
A vast wetland of sawgrass and mangroves in the south of the state, where airboats are the easiest way around and alligators are part of the scenery. Landscape: Swamp, mangroves, waterways. Known for: Airboats, alligators, remote hideouts.
Port Gellhorn
A once-popular holiday coast that has seen better days. Rockstar describes faded motels, shut-down attractions and strip malls that have emptied out. Landscape: Coastal town, run-down tourist strip. Known for: Cheap motels, closed attractions, small-town grit.
Ambrosia
An inland region in the middle of the state, built around a sugar refinery that is the main employer for the people who live there. Landscape: Inland farmland, industry, small towns. Known for: The sugar refinery, small-town rural life.
Mount Kalaga
A national park along the northern edge of Leonida, made for the outdoors: hunting, fishing and off-road trails through forest and hills. Landscape: Forest, hills and back-country trails. Known for: Hunting, fishing, off-roading.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has not announced an official map size. You will see many estimates online, including some based on leaked footage from 2022, but none of them come from Rockstar. What we do know is that the map covers a whole state rather than a single city and its countryside, which is how GTA V was structured around Los Santos and Blaine County. Treat any precise square-mile figure as speculation until the game is out.
What happens to this page after launch?
Once GTA 6 is released on November 19, 2026, we will expand this explorer with the real locations inside each region: safehouses, businesses, shops and points of interest, all checked against the actual game.
