Descriptions are our own summaries of the character profiles Rockstar published on its official GTA VI website in May 2025. We use initials instead of official artwork.
Two protagonists, one story
Grand Theft Auto VI follows Lucia and Jason, a criminal couple drawn into a conspiracy after a job goes wrong. Rockstar's trailers frame their relationship as the core of the story, with obvious nods to outlaw-couple stories like Bonnie and Clyde. That is a change from Grand Theft Auto V, where three protagonists — Michael, Franklin and Trevor — mostly had their own separate storylines that occasionally crossed.
Rockstar has not confirmed exactly how switching between Lucia and Jason works in play. Given the series' history, character switching similar to GTA V is a reasonable guess, but until Rockstar explains it, we are treating it as unconfirmed.
Lucia: a first for modern GTA
Lucia is the first playable female protagonist in a modern Grand Theft Auto game. The very first trailer opened on her in a prison jumpsuit, which lines up with Rockstar's later profile mentioning time in the Leonida Penitentiary. Rockstar describes her as someone who learned to fight young and is determined to make a better life for herself.
Jason: from the army to the Keys
Jason's profile paints him as someone who grew up around small-time criminals and never quite escaped that world. According to Rockstar, the game begins at his home in the Leonida Keys, where he works jobs for local drug runners. You can learn more about the Keys and the rest of the state in our Leonida region explorer.
The wider world of Vice City
The supporting characters revealed so far point to the themes Rockstar is exploring. Boobie Ike and Dre'Quan Priest connect the story to Vice City's nightlife and music scene through Only Raw Records. Real Dimez represent internet fame, a theme Rockstar leaned on heavily in the trailers with their social-media-style clips. Raul Bautista suggests the heist gameplay the series is known for, while Brian Heder and Cal Hampton anchor Jason's life in the Keys.
Who voices Lucia and Jason?
Rockstar has not officially credited the voice and motion-capture actors for GTA 6. Names circulate online, but none have been confirmed by Rockstar, so we do not list them here. Official credits will appear in the game at launch.
